DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Ray Murphey. Murphey was a seventh grader in Oak Cliff at the time of the Kennedy assassination. His late father was acquainted with Jack Ruby, who came to their home on occasion. Murphey later served in the Vietnam War. Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on May 31, 2013 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is forty-four minutes long.

In this 2013 oral history, Ray Murphey talks at length about an encounter he had with his hero, actor John Wayne, in August 1971. The Museum's Bob Jackson Collection (2025.007) includes several photographs of John Wayne visiting Dallas in 1970 and 1972, before and after Ray Murphey's memorable experience. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
