DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Charles Dameron. An employee of the Dallas Times Herald from 1946 to 1983, Dameron was news editor at the time of the Kennedy assassination. He had planned coverage of the Kennedy visit and supervised the newspaper's newsroom and composing room on November 22, 1963. Interview conducted at Mr. Dameron's home on January 12, 1995 by Bob Porter. The interview is one hour and fifty-seven minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary
Charles Franklin Dameron passed away on March 13, 2011 at the age of 92. After joining the U.S. Navy in 1943, he served in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the Naval Reserve after twenty-six years of service. During his long career at the Dallas Times Herald, Dameron was a reporter, city editor, news editor and ultimately associate managing editor.
