This could be the statue's unveiling ceremony on November 14, 1949. A woman stands beside the base of the statue, appearing in the lower right of the photo. A crowd of people are seated in front of the statue while behind them more people can be seen standing.
Curatorial Commentary
This twelve-foot bronze statue of George Bannerman Dealey was installed and dedicated in 1949 as the centerpiece of Dealey Plaza, the vehicular park that was previously dedicated in Dealey's honor upon completion in 1936. The statue was mounted on a red granite plinth and complemented by a series of bronze bas relief tablets that commemorated Dealey's contributions to Dallas over the years. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
