DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler. A nationally recognized philanthropist and longtime Dallas civic leader, Altshuler attended the Trade Mart luncheon on November 22, 1963. She also served on the Dallas County Grand Jury that indicted Jack Ruby the following Monday and later attended the Jack Ruby trial in 1964. In 2013, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings appointed Altshuler as chair of the President John F. Kennedy Commemorative Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination in Dallas.
Interview conducted at Mrs. Altshuler's home in Dallas on April 25, 2001 by Bob Porter and Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-nine minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryRuth Altshuler passed away on December 8, 2017. Less than three months prior to her death, she participated in a follow-up interview with The Sixth Floor Museum, conducted in partnership with the Dallas Historical Society.
