DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler. A nationally recognized philanthropist and longtime Dallas civic leader, Altshuler attended the Trade Mart luncheon on November 22, 1963. She also served on the Dallas County Grand Jury that indicted Jack Ruby the following Monday and later attended the Jack Ruby trial in 1964. In 2013, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings appointed Altshuler as chair of the President John F. Kennedy Commemorative Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination in Dallas.
Interview conducted at Mrs. Altshuler's home in Dallas on September 19, 2017 by Stephen Fagin, C. Dealey Campbell and Virginia McAlester. The interview is two hours long.

Ruth Altshuler passed away on December 8, 2017, less than three months after this joint Sixth Floor Museum/Dallas Historical Society interview was recorded. One of the interviewers, Dallas historian Virginia McAlester, recorded her own oral history in 2018 and sadly passed away in 2020. Prior to this lengthy 2017 oral history, Mrs. Altshuler recorded an interview with the Museum in 2001. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
