DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Steve Landregan. Assistant administrator for professional services at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1963, Landregan was heavily involved in hospital activities during the treatment of President Kennedy, Governor Connally and Lee Harvey Oswald. He was briefly inside Trauma Room One with the president, worked with Secret Service agents and other officials and later witnessed Oswald's autopsy, all while supervising hospital public relations throughout the weekend. Interview recorded at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on September 10, 2002 by Gary Mack and Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and forty-one minutes long.

Curatorial Commentary

I first met Steve Landregan at the Old Red Courthouse near Dealey Plaza in 2002 when he took part in an informal public program where individuals were encouraged to share their memories of the Kennedy assassination. I remember that as soon as Steve identified his role on November 22, 1963, Curator Gary Mack and I immediately exchanged looks and smiled. After he finished speaking, we both approached him about scheduling an oral history, and Steve said something like, "What took you guys so long?" He readily agreed to this interview, recorded just a few weeks later, which started a sixteen-year friendship with our institution. As an administrator, Steve had a unique perspective on what took place at Parkland Memorial Hospital, and unlike so many of the nurses and doctors involved, he never hesitated to share his memories.

In addition to this 2002 interview, we were thrilled to record a second oral history with Steve in 2013. After that, once a year between 2015 and his untimely passing on November 25, 2018, Steve was a popular educational speaker at the Museum.
