Curatorial Commentary
The donor of this booklet, Gene Veal, was a railroad switching tower operator from 1952 to 1989. Veal worked in several towers including the tower located in the parking lot of the Texas School Book Depository building, where his friend, tower operator Lee Bowers, was working at the time of the Kennedy assassination.  In oral history interviews recorded in 2001 and 2003, Veal referred to this structure as "Tower 106," but it is also commonly identified -- such as in the fold-out map found in this booklet -- as "Tower Number 2."  Gene Veal received this operating rules book upon his hiring in 1952. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
