DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Carol Wells. A Dallas restaurateur and businesswoman in the 1960s, Wells owned the private club, Le Pigalle, a popular nightspot among the Dallas gay community. Among her frequent customers were Jack Ruby and several of his performers.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on February 6, 2007 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-six minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryIn addition to Le Pigalle, Wells owned and operated other Dallas nightspots over the years, including the Alley Door and Act IV, as well as the 1960s coffeehouse, The Glad Hand. For more than thirty years, she owned the children's clothing store, Happiness Is, and later opened another clothing store, Silhouettes, near Southern Methodist University. She passed away at the age of 81 on March 5, 2012. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
