DescriptionOriginal black and white negative on Kodak Safety Film taken by Dallas Morning News photographer Bill Winfrey. The image shows a courtroom with Judge Joe B. Brown on the bench. The backs of Joe Tonahill, Melvin Belli, and Jack Ruby are visible at the defendant's table.
Curatorial CommentaryAlthough Judge Joe B. Brown's own courtroom was used for the pre-trial hearings in the Jack Ruby case, it proved too small to accomodate the news media and spectators anticipated during the actual trial. Instead Judge Frank Wilson gave Judge Brown use of his larger courtroom for the Jack Ruby trial in March 1964. This photo shows Brown's smaller courtroom. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
