DescriptionVideotaped Living History program with Bill and Gayle Newman. The closest civilian eyewitnesses to President Kennedy at the time of the fatal shot, the Newmans were on the north side of Elm Street in Dealey Plaza and shielded their small children after the shots were fired. They were then interviewed on live television approximately fifteen minutes after the assassination.
Program conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 11, 2009 by Associate Curator Stephen Fagin. The interview is forty-two minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryIn addition to two videotaped oral histories, recorded in 1993 and 2003, the Newmans have graciously participated in a series of Museum programs and special events from 2004 to the present day. Every appearance has been videotaped as part of the Museum's Oral History Project. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
