Radell passed away on January 21, 2023. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
I met Lloyd and Renée Radell through their son, Kevin Radell, who - as an eight-year-old in 1964 - wrote a letter to Jackie Kennedy that was later selected for publication in Dr. Ellen Fitzpatrick's book, Letters to Jackie: Condolences from a Grieving Nation (2010). After the publication of that book, I reached out to Kevin and recorded an oral history with him on September 20, 2010. At that time, he recommended that I also speak with his parents. I was fortunate to then record this interview with Lloyd and Renée
Radell less than two months later. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
Renée Radell (1929-2023) was an American Figurative Expressionist painter who exhibited her first one-person show in Detroit in 1953. Her award-winning art has been exhibited in numerous galleries in New York City and sold at auction at Christie's and Sotheby's. A 1974 article about her work in Detroit's Sunday News Magazine was published online in 2007 by the Russell Kirk Center in Mecosta, Michigan. It may be read here: Renee Radell—She Paints Confusion in Search of Order | The Russell Kirk Center. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
