Curatorial Commentary

I had the great pleasure of visiting Mr. Botello at his home in San Antonio on March 19, 2011. On my way southwest from Dallas, I stopped in Austin the day before and recorded oral histories at the homes of journalists Gary Cartwright (https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/33017) and Robert Hollingsworth (https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/33016). I am so grateful that I had this opportunity since all three men passed away within six years. Roy Botello died on December 4, 2016.

Thanks to this successful roadtrip in 2011, I was able to make annual spring visits to Austin and San Antonio over the next four years, recording more than twenty oral histories with a variety of journalists, authors, eyewitnesses and other interesting individuals. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
