Curatorial CommentaryWRR in Dallas was the first licensed radio station in Texas and the second in the United States. It began in the early 1920s as a public service station, used as the dispatch system for the Dallas Fire Department. The station later expanded to the 101.1 FM frequency in 1948. By the 1960s, including at the time of the Kennedy assassination, it featured a diverse range of programs including radio dramas, live sports, comedy, religious services, and traffic reporters as well as some blues and pop music. In 1964, WRR transitioned into a full-time all-classical music station, a format which it retains as of 2026. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
