David Linville Oral History
President Kennedy flew from Rhode Island to Dallas on October 9, 1961 to visit Sam Rayburn, U.S. Speaker of the House, in room 729 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Rayburn, who was being treated for cancer, died just over a month later on November 16, 1961. Interestingly, in addition to David Linville, another individual who saw President Kennedy at Baylor Hospital that day was Dr. Robert McClelland. And just like Linville, who observed the Kennedy motorcade two years later on November 22, 1963, Dr. McClelland also saw the president again that day. McClelland was among the doctors in Trauma Room One at Parkland Memorial Hospital who tried in vain to save the president's life following the shooting in Dealey Plaza. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
