DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with David Linville. A native Dallasite, Linville saw President Kennedy during his visit to Baylor Hospital to see U.S. Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn in 1961 and later saw the presidential motorcade on Main Street shortly before the assassination. Linville's late mother was an active Kennedy supporter.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on July 13, 2011 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-one minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryPresident Kennedy flew from Rhode Island to Dallas on October 9, 1961 to visit Sam Rayburn, U.S. Speaker of the House, in room 729 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Rayburn, who was being treated for cancer, died just over a month later on November 16, 1961. Interestingly, in addition to David Linville, another individual who saw President Kennedy at Baylor Hospital that day was Dr. Robert McClelland. And just like Linville, who observed the Kennedy motorcade two years later on November 22, 1963, Dr. McClelland also saw the president again that day. McClelland was among the doctors in Trauma Room One at Parkland Memorial Hospital who tried in vain to save the president's life following the shooting in Dealey Plaza. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
