DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with George Phenix. A news photographer for Dallas CBS affiliate KRLD-TV, Phenix was at Dallas Love Field and Parkland Memorial Hospital on the day of the Kennedy assassination. On Sunday, November 24, 1963, he captured the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald on 16mm film. After leaving KRLD, Phenix became a political writer and co-founded the Texas Weekly newsletter.
Interview conducted at Mr. Phenix's home in Austin on February 3, 2012 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-four minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryGeorge Phenix passed away on September 24, 2021. In 2004, Phenix co-authored When the News Went Live with three of his former KRLD-TV colleagues: Bob Huffaker, Bill Mercer and Wes Wise.
