DescriptionOne United States Marine Corps Certificate of Acceptance notifying Marguerite Oswald that her son, Lee Harvey Oswald, has been accepted into the Marine Corps. The certificate is dated October 24, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, and has a stamped signature from the Officer in Charge of the Marine Corps Recruiting Station, R. K. Jones, Captain, USMC. Oswald's Military Test Report issued by the United States Armed Forces Institute has been laminated to the back of the certifcate. Dated April 7, 1959, the test includes Oswald's service number: 1653230. There are 5 test scores listed and a Battery Rating of S for Satisfactory.

Curatorial Commentary

Lee Harvey Oswald joined the U.S. Marine Corps on October 24, 1956, less than one week after his seventeenth birthday. His older brother, Robert Oswald, signed the necessary paperwork as his guardian since Lee was still underage. At this time, Oswald's height was recorded as five feet, eight inches, and his weight at 135 pounds. - Stephen Fagin, Associate Curator
