DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by a Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. This image shows Dallas Police officers guarding a doorway at Parkland Hospital after the death of Lee Harvey Oswald on November 24, 1963. The officer on the left is Weldon E. "Rusty" Robbins. The images on this negative strip were taken by one of two Dallas Times Herald staff photographers at Parkland Hospital that day: Andy Hanson or Eamon Kennedy. It is unknown which of the two men took these pictures.
Curatorial Commentary
The Dallas police officer on the left, holding the shotgun, is Weldon E. "Rusty" Robbins. Robbins, an acquaintance of Jack Ruby, had worked crowd control on Main Street during the presidential motorcade on Friday. He was sent to Parkland Memorial Hospital on guard duty shortly after the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald. Robbins recorded an oral history with The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in 2003. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
