DescriptionVideotaped Museum gallery talk entitled "From Outsider to Insider" by Curator Gary Mack in commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the opening of The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. The presentation offered a personal perspective on the Museum's first quarter-century, including Mack's roles as assassination researcher, exhibit consultant and ultimately Museum Curator.
Program held at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on February 20, 2014 by Gary Mack. The interview is thirty-eight minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryGary Mack passed away on July 15, 2015 at the age of 68. Mack developed a research interest in the Kennedy assassination in the 1970s and, after a career in broadcasting as an announcer, camera operator and producer, joined the Museum's staff in 1994 as archivist. He was named curator in 2000. One month after his passing, the Museum held this memorial tribute program: Gary Mack Memorial Tribute (youtube.com).
This anniversary gallery talk was Gary's last public program at the Museum. However, his last public appearance was an introduction for the program, "Remembering Officer J.D. Tippit," on September 18, 2014. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
On the same day as this anniversary gallery talk by Gary Mack, I gave this presentation on the history of The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza: Assassination and Commemoration: The Sixth Floor Museum at 25 (youtube.com). - Stephen Fagin, Curator
