DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Janice Higdon. Higdon saw President and Mrs. Kennedy in San Antonio on November 21, 1963. Her late father, Dain Higdon, was longtime friends with John Connally and worked on his 1962 gubernatorial campaign.
Interview conducted at Ms. Higdon's home in San Antonio on April 20, 2014 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is twenty-nine minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryBetween 2011 and 2014, I made annual spring visits to Austin and San Antonio and recorded more than twenty oral histories with a variety of eyewitnesses, journalists, authors and other interesting individuals. Ms. Higdon, who contacted the Museum to volunteer for an interview at the 50th anniversary in 2013, was one of six people interviewed on my 2014 trip. I recall that this interview almost did not take place. Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 19th, she was forced to cancel due to illness. Fortunately, she felt a little better the following morning, which happened to be Easter Sunday, and I was able to visit her at her home in between two other scheduled interviews. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
