DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Mario Salas. A longtime human rights activist in San Antonio, Salas was actively involved with the Black Panthers and the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee. As part of the last SNCC chapter in the United States, he fought for civil rights and protested the Vietnam War. Salas, who also served on the San Antonio city council, later spearheaded a campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a state holiday. Interview conducted over Zoom on December 14, 2021 by Curator Stephen Fagin. The interview is 1 hour and 9 minutes long.

The Mario Marcel Salas Papers are housed at the University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries Special Collections and consist of correspondence, photographs, manuscripts and other materials related to Mr. Salas' civil rights activism and his service on the San Antonio City Council.
