DescriptionOriginal 35mm black and white negative taken by an unidentified Dallas Times Herald staff photographer. The image shows Dallas florist shop owners Mr. and Mrs. Pete Harris surrounded by the yellow roses which would be used to decorate the Dallas Trade Mart for the luncheon to honor President and Mrs. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. The dark roses in the center of the image, between Mr. and Mrs. Harris, are the red roses which would be presented to Mrs. Kennedy upon her arrival at Love Field. Curators have determined that these photos were taken on November 21, 1963, and this image appeared in the afternoon edition of the Dallas Times Herald that same day. Here is the caption included in that edition of the paper: "Dallas florists Mr. And Mrs. Pete Harris stand in midst of the roses which will be used to decorate the Trade Mart for Friday's luncheon for President and Mrs. Kennedy. The dark color ones, being held by Mrs. Harris, are the red roses that will be presented to Mrs. Kennedy at Love Field upon her arrival. More than 5,000 yellow roses were flown in early Thursday morning from California to bedeck the inside of the Trade Mart."
