DescriptionSix-page list of potential jurors for the State of Texas vs. Jack Ruby trial, printed in black ink on legal-size paper with many handwritten notes, markings, and information written in pencil next to each name. Each line of typed text on the form includes the name of the potential juror and their address including city if it is not Dallas. Beside each name in the "Cause" column are various marks, abbreviations, and comments. Some names listed on the first page have an "x" in the "Excused" column. The "State", "Deft.", and "Taken" columns have numbers on the same lines as a handful of names on each page. The chosen jurors' names and contact information are included in this six-page list, including "Max E. Causey", "Allen W. McCoy", "Mildred McCollum", "Luther E. Dickerson", "Douglas J. Sowell", "R. J. Flechtner", "Gwen L. English", "J. G. Holton Jr. [sic]", "James E. Cunningham" and "J. Waymon Rose". This object was originally part of the evidence collected by the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and specifically prosecutors Henry Wade and Bill Alexander during the investigation leading up to the Jack Ruby trial for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald.
Curatorial Commentary
In order to ensure its long-term care and preservation and to facilitate public access, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office placed their Jack Ruby Trial Collection (sometimes referred to as "the DA's Jack Ruby file") on long-term loan with The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in 2017. The Museum is working to make the entire collection accessible through this online collections database.
