Melvin Belli, Joe Tonahill, Phil Burleson and Sam Brody spoke for Ruby; Henry Wade, Dallas County District Attorney, was the prosecutor, assisted by Jim Bowie, Bill Alexander and Frank Watts. The presiding judge was Judge Joe B. Brown. Prospective jurors examined: Maude Ford, Margie N. Ackles, J. P. Carr, E. G. Boyd, Mrs. H. H. Walne, A. B. Catlett, L. E. McBride, Max E. Causey, J. L. Williford, Edna M. Day, James Clyde Crum, M. C. Blount, Edward C. Jung and Bill Bohannan. Max Causey was selected to the jury. Transcribed by court reporters James J. Muleady and Shirley M. Stinebaugh as indicated in footnote on bottom of each page. Transcript retains original thick gray covers; pages are numbered 522 - 781, typed on thin onionskin paper. Curatorial Commentary
The Museum recorded oral histories with the following individuals named in this document: defense attorneys Joe Tonahill and Phil Burleson and Dallas County D.A. Henry Wade. In addition, C. Keith Causey, son of the late jury foreman Max E. Causey, recorded an oral history with the Museum. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
In 2002, the family of the late Max E. Causey, jury foreman, donated his collection of trial-related papers to The Sixth Floor Museum (see 2002.051.0094 for his journal). This collection included correspondence, newspapers and clippings, a trial scrapbook, and most notably, copies of Mr. Causey's unpublished manuscript of his trial diary. Causey's nephew, journalism professor Dr. John Mark Dempsey, took his late uncle's diary and, combined with trial testimony and interviews with other jurors, published the book, The Jack Ruby Trial Revisited: The Diary of Jury Foreman Max Causey, in 2000. Dr. Dempsey, who later co-wrote Dallas broadcaster Eddie Barker's autobiography, donated his collection of audio oral histories with Ruby trial jurors to The Sixth Floor Museum in 2014. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
