DescriptionAudio oral history interview with Steven Grant. A comic book writer since the 1980s with publishers such as Marvel and DC Comics, Grant celebrated his tenth birthday one month prior to the Kennedy assassination. He is the author of the assassination-focused comic book miniseries "Badlands," first published by Dark Horse Comics between July and December 1991. Interview conducted by telephone on August 17, 2018 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-seven minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary

As mentioned during this interview, I vividly recall, as a middle school student, going to my local comic book store in 1991 and purchasing each issue of the miniseries Badlands as they were released. It was my first "mature" comic, and I was shocked and fascinated by the conspiratorial story that Steven Grant crafted across six issues (with amazing cover art) and, to this day, one of the most disturbing depictions of the fatal shot in Dealey Plaza that I've ever encountered. Nearly thirty years later, it was a great personal pleasure to speak with Grant about his childhood memories of the assassination and the creation of Badlands.

The Museum has a copy of Badlands, as collected in a single graphic novel edition in 1993, and the unproduced screenplay for Badlands, released as a paperback in 2002. Both may be found here in the Museum's Library Collection: Bibliovation | Catalog Search Results. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
