DescriptionAudio oral history interview with Steven Marsh. Marsh was a second grader in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the time of the Kennedy assassination. He attended the NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions on Sunday, November 24, 1963. Interview conducted by telephone on December 12, 2018 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-six minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary
The Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions game was one of seven NFL games played on November 24, 1963; among these was a highly controversial game between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns in Ohio. Dallas football players faced scrutiny from fans who blamed the city for the death of President Kennedy. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle made the decision to play the full schedule of Sunday games, which he later stated was a mistake. The mood at both games was somber.
