DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Dr. Harryette Ehrhardt. A longtime human rights activist in Dallas, Ehrhardt served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1995 to 2002. She was an English professor at Southern Methodist University in 1963 and was later a principal in the Dallas Independent School District during desegregation.
Interview conducted at the home of Dr. Harryette Ehrhardt in Dallas on June 3, 2019 by Stephen Fagin and C. Dealey Campbell, representing the Juanita Craft Interpretative Planning Committee. The interview is one hour and six minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryDuring her tenure at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Dr. Ehrhardt taught children's literature to future First Lady Laura Bush. In 2013, the former First Lady dedicated a library to Ehrhardt at Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School in Dallas. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
