A prominent Washington, D.C. attorney, Zaid specializes in national security law, freedom of speech claims and government accountability. After developing a research interest in the Kennedy assassination in 1974, he lectured and authored several articles on the case, corresponded with many first-generation researchers and contributed to the work of the JFK Assassination Records Review Board in the 1990s. Over the years, Zaid has represented three Secret Service agents as well as numerous authors, researchers and other key figures in assassination-related litigation.

Although I was familiar with Mark Zaid for many years, we did not meet in person until February 2020 when we were both invited to participate in a panel discussion entitled "Conspiracy Theories and Truths" at the 2020 Council of American Jewish Museums conference. Knowing we would be together on that occasion, I invited Mark to record this oral history immediately following our conference session. I was so glad that we had this opportunity because, unbeknownst to us at the time, less than a month after this recording the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a six-month closure of The Sixth Floor Museum. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
