DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Alan Schroeder. Schroeder, professor emeritus at Northeastern University in Boston, is the author of "Presidential Debates: Risky Business on the Campaign Trial" (2016) and "Celebrity-in-Chief: How Show Business Took Over the White House" (2004). He was a fourth grader in Kansas in 1963.
Interview conducted via Zoom on March 17, 2021 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and nine minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryAlan Schroeder's most recent book, Presidential Debates: Risky Business on the Campaign Trail (2016), is the third edition of his exploration of the relationship between news media and presidential campaigns. The book was original published as Presidential Debates: Forty Years of High-Risk TV (2000) and then as Presidential Debates: Fifty Years of High-Risk TV (2008). He is also the author of Writing and Producing Television News: From Newsroom to Air (2008). In addition to authoring several books, he has appeared in the media on many occasions to speak on presidential debates on ABC, CBS, CNN, NPR and Time Magazine. - Riley Harris, Collections Cataloger
