Curatorial Commentary
I am always grateful when oral history subjects recommend others for this ongoing project. Lanny Kaufer was incredibly kind to recommend several friends to me. His recommendations resulted in multiple new oral histories in 2022, including an interview with fellow SCOPE activist Phillip McKenna, which may be viewed in full here: https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/73101.
Mr. Kaufer, a singer/songwriter and former school teacher, remains committed to sharing the history of the Civil Rights Movement and discussing his activism. He frequently gives presentations to adult and student groups in California and across the country. Excerpts from some of his educational programs may be viewed on his website: The Presentation – civil rights vet.
