DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Denise Nicholas. An actress, best known for her roles in the television series Room 222 (1969-74) and In the Heat of the Night (1989-95), Nicholas was featured on the cover of Jet Magazine for the first time at the age of sixteen in 1960. From 1964 to 1966, Nicholas was a member of the Free Southern Theater and toured the South as part of the Civil Rights Movement.
Interview conducted via Zoom on November 12, 2021 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryIn addition to her prominent roles on Room 222 and In the Heat of the Night, Denise Nicholas has also appeared in a number of feature films, including Let's Do It Again (1975), starring and directed by Sidney Poitier. She also made a variety of guest appearances on popular television programs during the 1970s to 1990s, including The Love Boat, Diff'rent Strokes, Magnum P.I., The Cosby Show and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
