DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Dr. Angene and Jack Wilson. Inspired in part by President Kennedy, the Wilsons served in the Peace Corps in Liberia from 1962 to 1964. Dr. Angene Wilson, professor emeritus at the University of Kentucky, and Jack Wilson, a retired Peace Corps and environmental programs administrator, are the authors of "Voices From the Peace Corps: Fifty Years of Kentucky Volunteers" (2011).
Interview conducted via Zoom on June 7, 2022 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-eight minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryFor their 2011 book, Voices From the Peace Corps: Fifty Years of Kentucky Volunteers, Dr. Angene and Jack Wilson conducted oral histories with a number of Kentucky residents who served in the Peace Corps over the years. Published by the University Press of Kentucky, the book was re-released in paperback in 2021. After recording this oral history in June 2022, the Wilsons very kindly put me in touch with other Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who were also part of the first group assigned to Liberia in West Africa sixty years earlier in 1962.
