Curatorial Commentary
Senator John F. Kennedy visited the Alamo in San Antonio on September 12, 1960. He primarily discussed U.S. and Latin American relations and why a strong foreign policy program was necessary to address the ongoing threat of Communism. Among the crowd at the Alamo that day was Vivian Scribner, who had served under Kennedy aboard PT-59 (following the sinking of Kennedy's previous command, PT-109, in August 1943). Scribner, who drove some 250 miles to the Alamo for the campaign appearance, reunited with his former lieutenant for the first time since 1944. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
