DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Kevin Hadacek. Four years old in 1963, Hadacek was given a PT-109 toy by his mother on the day of the Kennedy assassination. It remains one of his earliest childhood memories.
Interview conducted at Mr. Hadacek's home in Hutto, Texas on April 20, 2014 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is eleven minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryThis interview was recorded in Hutto, Texas, approximately 175 miles south of Dallas, as part of a 2014 oral history road trip to Austin and San Antonio. Mr. Hadacek was one of six people interviewed between April 18-20, 2014. Others interviewed on that trip include authors Bill Minutaglio (Bill Minutaglio Oral History – Search Minutaglio (Objects) – Search – The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza) and Steven L. Davis (Steven L. Davis Oral History – Works – The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza). - Stephen Fagin, Curator
The Museum's Collection includes several PT-109 commercial products popular in the early 1960s, including a comic book, record ("PT-109" by Jimmy Dean, 1962) and model ships. I talk about and show some of these artifacts during a 2016 gallery talk, "PT-109 and the 1960 Campaign," available here on the Museum's YouTube channel: Gallery Talk: PT-109 and the 1960 Campaign. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
