DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Speaker Jim Wright. Congressman from Fort Worth and former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Wright was one of the key planners for President Kennedy's visit to Fort Worth and traveled with the presidential party to Dallas. He gave an emotional prayer for the late president on live radio outside of Parkland Memorial Hospital just after President Kennedy's death was announced. Interview conducted at Speaker Wright's office on February 22, 1996 by Wes Wise with Bob Porter. The interview is one hour and fifty-one minutes long.
Curatorial Commentary
During this oral history recording, the interviewers played for Speaker Wright a recording of his emotional prayer outside of Parkland Memorial Hospital on November 22, 1963. Perhaps not surprisingly, he had no memory of speaking to reporter Bob Huffaker on live KRLD Radio just after the announcement of President Kennedy's death. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
Speaker Wright passed away on May 6, 2015. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
