DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Robert Miller. Assistant city editor at The Dallas Morning News in 1963, Miller attended the Dallas Trade Mart luncheon on the day of the Kennedy assassination and then served as weekend city editor at the newspaper on the morning that Lee Harvey Oswald was shot. Miller provided detailed recollections about the social and political atmosphere in Dallas at the time of the assassination.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on June 24, 2005 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and forty-five minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryRobert Miller passed away on November 30, 2019 at the age of 96. After serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he attended journalism school at the University of Missouri and Columbia University. He went to work at The Dallas Morning News in 1951, initially as an obituary writer. During his sixty-four-year career at the Morning News, he was a reporter, city editor, assistant managing editor and, most notably, a featured columnist from 1985 to 2015. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
In addition to this 2005 oral history, Robert Miller also participated in a Museum panel discussion entitled "Journalists, Trauma and JFK: Why Storytelling Matters," on November 1, 2013. Organized by The Ochberg Society for Trauma Journalism, the panel also featured the late Jim Ewell (Jim Ewell Oral History – Search ewell (Objects) – Search – The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza) and was moderated by reporter David Tarrant.
