DescriptionAudio oral history interview with Wilborn Hampton. The youngest United Press International (UPI) reporter at the Dallas bureau, Hampton took the call from Merriman Smith in the motorcade reporting the president's shooting. Hampton spent time that weekend at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Dallas City Hall, where he attended Oswald's midnight press conference. Years later, while serving as an editor at The New York Times, Hampton wrote a series of young adult history books, including "Kennedy Assassinated! The World Mourns: A Reporter's Story" (1997). Interview conducted by telephone on November 23, 2009 by Associate Curator Stephen Fagin. The interview is one hour and thirty-two minutes long.
