DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Dick Wheeler. A Dallas radio and TV broadcaster, Wheeler was hired by Eddie Barker at KRLD just eleven days before the Kennedy assassination. On November 22, 1963, he was assigned to cover the president's breakfast meeting in Fort Worth and the Dallas Trade Mart luncheon for KRLD radio. Following the shooting, Wheeler spent the majority of the weekend at Dallas police headquarters.
Interview conducted at Mr. Wheeler's home on September 20, 2006 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is forty-five minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryDick Wheeler has had an extensive, storied broadcast career of more than 40 years, almost all based in Texas. Some of his work from the weekend of the Kennedy assassination is preserved on the original KRLD Radio tapes in the permanent collection of The Sixth Floor Museum. - Gary Mack, Curator
