Curatorial Commentary
Helen Holmes, a PR executive with the Sam Bloom Agency in Dallas, handled media logistics for the president's visit on November 22, 1963.  In her 1993 oral history, she expressed how surprised she was that President and Mrs. Kennedy approached the fence to shake hands with the crowd.  "There had been talk that he might wave," she remembered, "but nobody really expected that he would wade into the crowd that way."  - Stephen Fagin, Curator
