DescriptionAudio oral history interview with David Bourland. A Dallas high school student in 1963, Bourland observed the Kennedy motorcade on Main Street. After the assassination, he and a classmate viewed the scene at Parkland Memorial Hospital from telescopes at the top of the Southland Life Building in downtown Dallas.
Interview conducted via telephone on March 3, 2014 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is twenty-four minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryMr. Bourland originally submitted his memories in writing to the Museum on January 22, 2014. We were pleased that he was also willing to participate in the Oral History Project. His initial statement read:
"I was a sophomore in high school and took the day off with a friend to see the President. We saw him about 15 minutes or so before he was shot. It was very memorable, of course, to be there and see everyone running thru town yelling, 'The President has been shot.' We went on top of Southland Life and looked thru the telescope and watched the car pull up at the hospital." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
