DescriptionOriginal 35mm color slide of Dealey Plaza and flowers honoring President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. The image was taken by amateur photographers Rudy and Vera Clauss on Sunday, November 24, 1963, two days after the assassination of President Kennedy. The image shows a wreath of flowers with the text "In Love and Respect to John F. Kennedy Allied Florists of Dallas" as well as a series of flower arrangements and other mementos, all positioned in front of the north pergola in Dealey Plaza.
Curatorial Commentary
Allied Florists of Dallas, Inc. is a non-profit incorporated in May 1951. As of 2021, it is still in existence seventy years later. According to the website of the Allied Florists of Houston, an allied is "an organization composed of all facets of the floral industry - retailers, wholesalers, growers, owners, managers and employees. An allied is a forum where educational programs on a local level offer information necessary for professional growth and development." -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
