DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Kaye Northcott. As a student journalist with the Daily Texan at the University of Texas at Austin, Northcott covered the Civil Rights Movement, including the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march. On the night of the Kennedy assassination, she covered the scene at Dallas police headquarters. Northcott was later co-editor of the Texas Observer from 1968 to 1976.
Interview conducted via Zoom on April 11, 2025 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is forty-six minutes long.

Kaye Northcott has had a distinguished career in Texas journalism since the 1960s. At the Texas Observer, where she was hired in 1967, she rose to associate editor and then served as editor from 1970 to 1976. In 1986, she joined the staff of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, initially as a political reporter before becoming an editor. In addition, she was editor for seven years at Texas Co-op Power magazine. Northcott, a former president of the Texas Institute of Letters, received the George W. Haggard Memorial Journalism Award from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association in 2007. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
