DescriptionVideotaped oral history interview with Eugene Boone. A Dallas County deputy sheriff in 1963, Boone observed the Kennedy motorcade on Main Street and searched the Dealey Plaza rail yards immediately after the assassination. Less than one hour after the shooting, he discovered a rifle on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. Prior to joining the sheriff's department, Boone worked at the Dallas Times Herald and knew Jack Ruby.
Interview conducted at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza on November 25, 2003 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is fifty-one minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryEugene Boone passed away on October 28, 2017. After this 2003 oral history, Boone became a good friend of The Sixth Floor Museum. In addition to donating a typed letter that Boone wrote to Sheriff Bill Decker on the afternoon of the assassination (https://emuseum.jfk.org/objects/34830), he returned to the Museum for a second oral history in 2014 and a series of public programs between 2006 and 2014.
