DescriptionOriginal 35mm color slide taken by amateur photographers Rudy and Vera Clauss showing the Kennedys deplaning from Air Force One at Love Field airport in Dallas, TX on November 22, 1963. Jacqueline Kennedy, with President John F. Kennedy behind her, are visible at the top of the stairs as a crowd of local dignitaries and press wait below to welcome them. Nellie Connally and Governor John Connally are just visible in the doorway as they wait to follow the Kennedys down the steps. Several police officers guard a rope barricade.
Curatorial Commentary
This Boeing VC-137C aircraft, designated Air Force One when the president of the United States was on board, ultimately carried eight sitting presidents, from John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton.  It was officially retired in 1998 and today can be seen at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
