DescriptionOriginal 35mm color slide taken by amateur photographers Rudy and Vera Clauss showing the Kennedys greeting crowds at Love Field airport in Dallas, TX on November 22, 1963. Jacqueline Kennedy's iconic pink pillbox hat is barely visible through the crowd, while part of President Kennedy can be seen in the middle of the image, his face obscured by a nearby police officer. Air Force One is partially visible in the background, and several police officers and Secret Service agents can be seen guarding the President and Mrs. Kennedy.
Curatorial Commentary
The Boeing VC-137C aircraft (on the right), designated Air Force One when the president of the United States was on board, ultimately carried eight sitting presidents, from John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton.  It was officially retired in 1998 and today can be seen at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. - Stephen Fagin, Curator
