DescriptionAudio oral history interview with Charles Augins. A noted dancer and choreographer, Augins is chair of the Dance Department at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. After experiencing high school desegregation in Virginia, Augins became a civil rights activist and participated in the March on Washington on August 28, 1963.
Interview conducted by telephone on April 3, 2015 by Stephen Fagin. The interview is thirty-two minutes long.
Curatorial CommentaryCharles Augins won the 1991 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreographer the Broadway production of Five Guys Named Moe. In addition to his work as an educator and choreographer, Augins has also appeared in several films, including Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), Labyrinth (1986) and The Tall Guy (1989), and the science fiction television programs Blake's 7 (1981) and Red Dwarf (1988) -- Stephen Fagin, Curator
